The Client

IT company of Southeast USA that offers cybersecurity, cloud computing, VoIP, and virtualization services founded in 2009 with revenue of around $5 M every quarter

The Challenge

  • Client was providing services in the VoIP industry. Their Operations Manager approached us with the problems they faced in generating tax liability reports. They use a whitelable VOIP provider to provide services to their clients. This whitelable voip software was able to manage complexity of taxes like federal tax and then many other types of taxes applicable on states, city, county. client used to manually copy invoice data and enter into quickbooks desktop. They wanted that if all invoices of whitelable VOIP portal can be automatically synced to their quickbooks desktop.
  • Second problem was accurately generating tax liability and filing taxes to different authorities. You can understand the complexity of VOIP tax compliance from CPA practice advisor here.
  • The client wanted tax reports based on Federal, State, and Local Tax. They were not able to cope up with many different tax rates to different bodies of government. To simplify and have a better insight they wanted to have on hand reports of tax liability.
  • It was the initial phase of COVID virus pandemic and their Vice President of Technical Services was super busy due to the chaos.
  • To coordinate better, they decided to handover the work to a team who is expert in QuickBooks integrations as the data which generates the tax liability report was present in their QuickBooks desktop enterprise application.
The Challenge

The Solution

Milestone 1 - The Satva team coordinated with clients to gain in-depth insight of all the pain points. Initially it looked like simple QuickBooks desktop integration which our team had done for more than 3 times already. But as the first milestone was achieved and code was running on a staging environment, many problems got the lights upon them.

Milestone 2 - Understanding the feedback of current code, Satva team started exploring the tax rules and made a next part of code which calculates the taxes based on the tax rules set and invoice address. Here came the next set of blockages as different counties of different states might have the same name so that was confusing the system.

Milestone 3 -Then, the Satva team created a code further that resolved the problem mentioned above. At the end, after almost 7 months the client was finally able to see the reports they wanted to see. Though it took more time than it should have, that was all due to COVID pandemic and some key people from both the teams being unavailable on the different cycles due to heavy schedules
