Xero MCP Connector for Multi-Organisation Accounting

Most integrations that say “works with Xero” mean invoices and contacts. That is enough for the first week.

Then someone asks for the purchase order behind a bill, or whether the new laptops were capitalized, or how this quarter sits against budget, and the answer is a browser tab and a login.

This connector carries the accounting surface, not a slice of it. Purchase orders, budgets, projects, fixed assets, attachments, repeating invoices, batch payments.

It emails an invoice to the contact on file and voids one without deleting it. 112 tools, and the useful ones are the tools other integrations never got to.

What Is the Xero MCP Connector?

The Xero MCP Connector gives AI assistants controlled access to accounting and operational data across connected Xero organizations.

Instead of limiting AI access to invoices and contacts, the connector supports workflows across purchase orders, budgets, projects, fixed assets, payments, bank transactions, attachments, reports, and other areas of the Xero Accounting API.

Teams can query information in natural language and, where write access is enabled, perform approved accounting actions directly through the connected environment.

The flow is straightforward:

Multiple authorised Xero organisations can be accessed through the same environment while each request remains targeted to the organisation specified by the user.

For businesses that need deeper workflows between Xero and other systems, Satva also builds custom Xero integrations covering accounting, ecommerce, CRM, payroll, and operational platforms.

Step 1

Xero MCP Coverage Beyond Invoices and Contacts

112 tools across the Xero Accounting API, including the ones that usually get skipped.

  • Purchase orders, budgets, projects, and fixed assets. Not an add-on module built on the side. They are in the same connector as the invoice you started with.
  • Email an invoice, or void one. Voiding isn’t deleting, which matters to anyone who’s had to explain a missing invoice number to an auditor.
  • Attachments and history notes. Attach the supplier PDF to the bill, and leave a note explaining why.
  • Repeating invoices, linked transactions, batch payments, over- and prepayment allocation, the unglamorous end of the ledger, where most of the manual work lives.
  • Everything you expected: invoices, bills, quotes, credit notes, payments, bank transactions, journals, contacts, items, tracking categories, tax, and reports.

For a deeper technical view of how these capabilities are exposed, explore our Xero API guide covering the Accounting, Assets, Projects, Payroll, Files, and Bank Feeds APIs.

Step 2

Manage Multiple Xero Organizations Through One MCP Connection

Connect the organisations you need. One key opens all of them, in the same chat.

  • Every connected organization works the same way. Name it in the question, or let the one you marked as Default answer when you do not.
  • Organizations can span several Xero apps. Start on Satva’s shared app; add your own Client ID when you need more room.
  • Xero’s Starter developer tier currently supports up to five connections. As connection requirements grow, Xero provides higher developer tiers with increased connection limits.
  • If two organizations have similar names, pass the tenant ID instead, and the ambiguity disappears.
  • An expired connection reconnects automatically. The other organizations keep working while you do it..

Step 3

Xero Payroll, Projects and Assets Enabled Per Organisation

Three parts of Xero are optional subscriptions. We treat them that way rather than pretending every organization has them.

  • Payroll needs a New Zealand or UK organization with Xero Payroll. Where that applies, twelve payroll tools switch on. Where it doesn’t, they aren’t there, and we say so rather than letting you find out on a call.
  • Projects and Assets need their own permissions granted when the organization is connected.
  • You tick what that organization actually subscribes to. Ticking something it does not have makes the connection fail, so the switch is a question, not a wish list.
  • Add-ons apply to the next connection, not retroactively to already linked organizations.

Ten things to type on day one

These are the prompts we use in the demo. Nothing is rephrased for the website.

Once an organisation is connected, the Xero MCP Connector can answer questions and perform approved accounting actions like these in plain English.

  • “Show linked organizations”: every org on the key and token health.
  • “List unpaid invoices”: authorized sales invoices not yet paid.
  • “Create a contact”: a demo customer contact.
  • “Create and email an invoice”: raise it, then send it to the contact on file.
  • “Aged receivables”: who owes you, by contact
  • “P&L and balance sheet”: both, for this month
  • “Create a purchase order”: a draft PO to a supplier.
  • “Void a demo invoice”: voided, not deleted.
  • “Bank activity”: recent bank transactions
  • “Switch organization”: sets the active Xero org.

Under the hood

112 tools across the Xero Accounting API. Purchase orders, budgets, projects, fixed assets, attachments, email, void invoices, repeating invoices, and batch payments. Multi-organization on one key. Payroll on NZ and UK organizations. Gateway-secured, with direct callers refused.

Teams evaluating Xero alongside other accounting platforms can also use a unified accounting integration approach to reduce platform-specific authentication, data-model, and maintenance complexity.

Ask for the purchase order. It is already there.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much of Xero does this actually cover?
The accounting surface, not a slice of it: invoices, bills, quotes, credit notes, payments, bank transactions, journals, contacts, items, tracking categories, tax and reports, plus purchase orders, budgets, projects, fixed assets, attachments, repeating invoices, linked transactions and batch payments. 112 tools in total.

Which organizations can it see?
Only the ones you connected. One key covers all of them, and you name the organization in the question. Leave the name out, and it uses the one you marked as default. Asking about one organization does not expose another.

Do I need my own Xero app?
Not to start. You can connect through Satva’s shared app while it has room. Xero allows five organizations per app on its free plan, so once that fills up, you can add your own Client ID and connect from there. It takes a few minutes, and it is a documented step, not a support ticket.

Can it do payroll?
For New Zealand and UK organizations with Xero Payroll, yes, twelve payroll tools switch on when that organization is connected with payroll permission. Other regions don’t have Xero Payroll to connect to, so those tools aren’t available.

Can it change things, or only read?
It writes. It will create contacts and invoices, raise purchase orders, record payments, email an invoice, and void one. Void is not delete: the record stays, which auditors expect. We scope write access when we deploy.

What happens when an organization’s connection expires?
You reconnect that organization, and the others keep working. You can also ask for a health summary across every connected organization, which is worth doing before a reporting run rather than during one.

Two of our organizations have similar names. How does it know which one I mean?
Pass the tenant ID instead of the name. Ask for the list of connected organizations, and it returns both, so the ambiguity is resolved in one extra sentence rather than by guesswork.
